5/18/2008 ~ What is Your Choice?


What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?
~ Romans 6:1

What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace?
Certainly not! ~ Romans 6:15

Christianity is not a ticket or license to sin.
→ Sin is a debt.
All are in need.

... where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned
in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life ...
~ Romans 5:18-21

                                            ┌─> Sin keeps beating us.
... If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar,
and His word is not in us. ~ 1st John 1:7-10

... If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness,
we lie and do not practice the truth. ~ 1st John 1:5-6

We need to embrace the light.
We must be victorious to God.

... How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? ~ Romans 6:1-2

Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus
were baptized into His death? ~ Romans 6:3

He put the body to death for us.

... we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ
was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, ... ~ Romans 6:4

If you have not been baptized, you do not touch His death.

... that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be
done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. ~ Romans 6:5-6

We must battle against our own sin.
~ We must not be slaves to sin.

... Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, ...
~ Romans 6:7-9

Jesus died once for all.
We need to work it to remove our sin.
Jesus died so we could put our sins to death.

For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all;
but the life that He lives, He lives to God. ~ Romans 6:10

We need to live to God.

... judgments of the Lord ... by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward. ~ Psalm 19:7-11

... For the the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish. ~ Psalm 1:1-6

God’s righteousness is the tree of life.

... do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.
~ Romans 6:11-12

Sin hurts God.

... he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who
sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. ~ Galatians 6:7-8

God tells us how to sow to the spirit.

... present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your
members as instruments of righteousness to God. ... ~ Romans 6:13-14

What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace?
Certainly not! ~ Romans 6:15

Erasing your sins once does not give one the freedom to continue to sin.

... slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death,
or of obedience leading to righteousness? ~ Romans 6:16

One can be a servant to righteousness over sin.

WHO DO YOU CHOOSE TO SERVE?

... though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart ...
~ Romans 6:17

One chooses to serve God.

And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
~ Romans 6:18

Serving the righteousness of God sets you free from sin.

... so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness. ...
~ Romans 6:19-20

For this reason many are frightened of Jesus.
Many prefer to be successful at sin.

... things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
~ Romans 6:21

Would you choose death?

... having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness,
and the end, everlasting life. ... ~ Romans 6:22-23

One must choose to glorify Him.
It is not faith only.
It is an act of service.

Be a servant of God.
