4/16/2006 ~ Are You Free?

"And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
~ John 8:32

Truth has an eternal way of not going away.

... Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, ... ~ John 8:1-12

Many Bibles use red letters for the words spoken by Jesus.
Many people focus just on these, but what of the other side of the coin?
What do the black letters tell us?

... "You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true." ... ~ John 8:13

Then they said to Him, "Where is Your Father?" ~ John 8:19

If you're not free you will not feel God.

These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; ...
~ John 8:20

... "Will He kill Himself, because He says, Where I go you cannot come?"
~ John 8:22

Then they said to Him, "Who are You?" ~ John 8:25

They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father. ~ John 8:27

... "We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage ...
~ John 8:33

They did not see needing freedom.

They answered and said to Him, "Abraham is our father." ~ John 8:39

... "We were not born of fornication; we have one Father - God."
~ John 8:41

... "Do we not say rightly that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?"
~ John 8:48

... "Now we know that You have a demon! Abraham is dead, ...
~ John 8:52-53

... "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?"
~ John 8:57

Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went ...
~ John 8:59

They did not understand they needed to be set free.
They were willing to kill Jesus because they were not free
and could not see it.

Honestly, how many of us want to kill our neighbors out of confusion?

The Romans were on top of them
yet Jews were afforded religious liberties with commerce privileges.
- There were extremely materialistically successful Jews.

Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, ... ~ John 8:9

How do you know that your not free?

DO YOU
DESPISE

~ When we compare ourselves to others.

... trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: ...
~ Luke 18:9-14

Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. ...
~ 2nd Corinthians 13:5

Do not focus on fault or darkness will shut out the light.
Many times we see Jesus’ ways and we are ashamed.
Escape the shame and don’t leave the light.

These men were bitter.

ARE YOU
BITTER

People get disappointed
These people were not free

... Jesus said, "You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, ...
~ Matthew 19:18-19

... wisdom is justified by all her children." ~ Luke 7:31-35

"Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; ...
~ Mark 9:37

... humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
~ Matthew 18:2-4

We should be upset if the afflicted or children are abused.
There are times to be angry or to feel indignation,
But continual bitterness is generated from the self.
Humble yourself before God and bitterness will lose its’ grip.
Do you love as a child?

What prevents freedom?
If you are a slave to sin.

HELD BY
SIN

Terrible bondage – a path that never gets better;
Consumed in misery and unhappiness; desires of the self.

My Money
My Pride
My Life
 ┐
 ├─
 ┘
  Live according to the world
and be enslaved to the world.

We all must confess our sins to be set free.
People who do not know God do not have freedom.

... "I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. ...
~ John 8:49-58

Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; ...
~ 1st John 3:9

What makes you not free?

ROAD TO DARKNESS
● DESPISE
● BITTER
● SIN
DO NOT KNOW GOD

IF YOU WANT TO BE FREE
YOU NEED TO BECOME INVOLVED IN THE TRUTH,
GOD'S WORD TO US.

Stake your life on it.

Where is your LOVE?
