8/16/2009 ~ Righteousness: Our Duty To Do

... "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree,
'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey ..."
~ Luke 17:1-10

The faith of Christ forgave all.
It is difficult to forgive someone repeatedly.

... "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven."
~ Matthew 18:21-22

Innumerably ~ we should forgive.

Most People Will Not Forgive Once

And the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith." ~ Luke 17:5

● Be prepared to forgive.
● It takes faith to forgive.

"... if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain,
'Move from here to there,' and it will move; ... ~ Matthew 17:20

We can move mountains if we trust God, one rock at a time.
~ There is nothing we have without God and
righteousness is looking for opportunity to serve Him.

... 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men - extortioners, unjust,
adulterers, or even as this tax collector. ...' ~ Luke 18:9-14

Righteousness cannot be found by comparing yourself to anything else.

Feeling Superior  =  Unrighteous
God Forgave Me  =  Righteous

Look to God and Christ where righteousness is set.
Improvement is the message and this is where goodness holds.

... Zacchaeus ... "... if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation,
I restore fourfold." ... ~ Luke 19:2-10

We will never be good enough.

... seeking to establish their own righteousness,
have not submitted to the righteousness of God. ~ Romans 10:1-3

It is not sufficient to just obtain self-satisfaction.
One or two successes only leaves more ahead.
We are souls in search of redemption.
It never will be enough.

One will never find credit with God or be ahead of Him.
We eternally are indebted to Him.

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
~ Romans 10:4

... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ... ~ Romans 3:23

We need to want to try to please Him; continually seeking out ~ within.

... God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written,
"The just shall live by faith." ~ Romans 1:16-17

We need to come to Christ and the word to serve Him.

"... when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say,
'We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.' "
~ Luke 17:9-10

Again, God does not owe us anything.

Attitude = What Can I Do To Serve?

We will never be able to do enough for each other in Christ.
~ It is repentance with thanks for continued opportunities.
God wants to uplift us all.

"... it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven
that one of these little ones should perish." ~ Matthew 18:12-14

Let not your faith faint.

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season
we shall reap if we do not lose heart. ~ Galatians 6:9

Being continually good can be tiring.
It is His grace that allows us to serve.

... spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.
~ Galatians 6:1

In the end, we are all unprofitable servants
and must continue striving and in this is righteousness.

Righteousness is found in Obedience to God's Word.
