9/11/2006 ~ Do You Believe Jesus is the Christ?

~ Let us not be afraid to speak of the Gospel.

... Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ,
the Son of the living God." ... ~ Matthew 16:13-20

The Apostles had been with Jesus for 2 ½ years.
They had a true and mature view of Jesus.
The Galilean ministry was ending and a transition was just ahead.

He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. ~ John 1:11

Jesus wanted them to know they knew more about Him
and would also bear judgment for their knowledge of the truth.

Do you abandon the truth based on public opinion; band wagon?
~ The nation was in a state of unbelief.

And there was much complaining among the people concerning Him. ...
~ John 7:12-15

But look! He speaks boldly, and they say nothing to Him. ... ~ John 7:26-27

... The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning Him,
... ~ John 7:31-32

... "Truly this is the Prophet." Others said, "This is the Christ." ...
~ John 7:40-41

... So there was a division among the people because of Him. ~ John 7:42-43

People honored Jesus as a prophet but not as the omnipotent Christ.

If you believe Christ is a prophet then you must believe
what He said about Himself and if you truly believe
He was a prophet, then the only begotten Son of God: Christ.

If you believe He was only a prophet
and not the Son of God you do not believe.

You deny God’s proclamations.

... "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!"
~ Matthew 17:5

"... he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me." ~ Luke 10:16

Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? ...
~ 1st John 2:22-24

The Jews knew a universal Kingdom was to come;
a Kingdom of salvation.

↘     ↓     ↙
... I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. ... ~ 2nd Samuel 7:12-16

... establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward,
even forever. ... ~ Isaiah 9:7

... God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; ...
~ Daniel 2:44

... And will assemble the outcasts of Israel, ... ~ Isaiah 11:12

... Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, ... ~ Isaiah 7:14

... And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ~ Isaiah 9:6

Jesus, you are the Son of the living God and hold the nature of God.
You and you alone are the one who saves us from our sins.
Anything less than this in not belief.

Jesus did not come to build several churches but His church.

... Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, ... ~ Ephesians 5:25

Christ died for the church.

"... church of God which He purchased with His own blood." ~ Acts 20:28

He gave of Himself and purchased it with His own blood.
He built the church upon Himself.
~ All other religious constructions are illusions of man.

... that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water
by the word, ... ~ Ephesians 5:25-27

Jesus did for people scarred and disfigured by sin.
Sin has made us ugly before God.
There are no small sins because they estrange us from God.

... your iniquities have separated you from your God; ... ~ Isaiah 59:1-2

And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
in which you once walked ... ~ Ephesians 2:1-3

Jesus died for the marred.

For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived,
serving various lusts and pleasures, ... ~ Titus 3:3

... such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, ...
~ 1st Corinthians 6:9-11

All members of Christ’s church were once heinous sinners
committing the vilest of all deeds, myself included.

Jesus came to save sinners.

"... for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."
~ Luke 19:10

... since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also
with the same mind, ... ~ 1st Peter 4:1-4

~ 1st Peter 2:4-5

for the hope that is in you, ... ~ 1st Peter 3:15

Many seem to think Christ’s church foolish and weak.
~ After all, there are no amenities, coffee and sports with music.

... My house is a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves."
~ Luke 19:46

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God
is stronger than men. ~ 1st Corinthians 1:25

... not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble,
are called. ... ~ 1st Corinthians 1:26-31

We have all been involved in the sins of the flesh.
No one should deny we need to return to the truth of God.

... now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church ...
~ Ephesians 3:8-12

God makes His wisdom known through the church.

... you who once were far off have been brought near
by the blood of Christ. ... ~ Ephesians 2:13-15

The church is made from all kinds of people in all nations.

... that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, ...
~ Ephesians 2:16

The One Body is the church.

And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning,
the firstborn from the dead, ... ~ Colossians 1:18

... that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot ...
~ Ephesians 5:27

There will come a time when the body will be presented to Jesus,
~ all those who faithfully believe.
This will be the end of the church.
Men of God will be presented to God in this way.

So, how can the church of Christ be unimportant?

We need to continue to understand
the workings of the church through the word.

Those that belittle Christ’s church will be held accountable.
Turn from sin and be baptized into the One Body under Christ.

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body
- whether Jews or Greeks, ... ~ 1st Corinthians 12:13

Don’t wait to believe in Jesus.
