1/13/2008 ~ Three Sacrifices

Ever feel you have not worshipped?
~ As the old covenant went away with its’ sacrifices,
~ many felt loss as to feeling spiritual satisfaction.

The message is worship relates to sacrifice
~ as in offering something to God.

By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice ... ~ Hebrews 11:4

The best one could offer. <─┐
'... to make a sweet aroma to the LORD, from the herd or the flock, ...'
~ Numbers 15:3

... I do not delight in the blood of bulls, Or of lambs or goats." ~ Isaiah 1:11
└─> God became fed up with the insincere folly.

... "Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin
You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them" ... ~ Hebrews 10:1-10

The Jews turned sacrifice to God in to an awaited for barbeque feast.

"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
~ John 4:24

~ SPIRIT ~

... a spirit does not have flesh and bones ... ~ Luke 24:39
└─> May not be of the five senses.

Good “fuzzy” feelings do not necessarily indicate proper worship.
We must direct our thoughts to His word and reflect on Jesus’ life.

... at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God,
and the prisoners were listening ... ~ Acts 16:24-25

Not confined to the assembly. <─┘

Do you only WORSHIP on Sunday?

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. ~ Hebrews 13:8

God is not a changeable idol.
What we worship through Jesus is what is right.
● Worship is not exclusively a ritual.
└─> It involves acts of thanksgiving from the heart.

Sacrifice In Jesus

Many prefer substitutes or lies over the ‘once’ delivered truth.

... it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which
have not profited those who have been occupied with them. ~ Hebrews 13:9

└─> Does not please God.

God is the author of the perfect plan not man.

Sin offering must be outside and far from the temple. <─┐
'... offer to the LORD for his sin which he has sinned a young bull
without blemish as a sin offering.' ... ~ Leviticus 4:1-3

... Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood,
suffered outside the gate. ~ Hebrews 13:10-12

~ JESUS ~
This ultimate sacrifice will have nothing to do with Jewish tradition.
It is two different covenants. <─┘

Precedence over the past.

1. They wanted Moses over Jesus.
2. It meant that they did not have a physical priest.
3. They did not have a physical temple building.

... given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God
for a sweet-smelling aroma. ~ Ephesians 5:2

~ The sinless sacrifice sacrificed outside the city. ~
Christ is our Alter at Golgotha.

Sacrifice of Promise

... continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, ... ~ Hebrews 13:13-15
└─> We need to offer praise.
                                ↑ ↑ ↑
~ Because it pleases God as it is His instruction.
You need to do what God wants.

But do not forget to do good and to share,
for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. ~ Hebrews 13:16

Sacrifice of Doing Good and Sharing.

Jews had to confront:
           ● Not going to the temple.
           ● Not bringing an animal.
                                                                                          \   |   /
We now all have the opportunity to sacrifice to God endlessly.
                                        \   |   /                                       /   |   \
~ It is God’s gift to us. ~

We need to consider these sacrifices.

1. Sacrifices of the Jews.
2. Sacrifice of Jesus.
3. Our Sacrifices.

... present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God,
which is your reasonable service. ~ Romans 12:1

... offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
~ 1st Peter 2:4-5

... if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart
that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. ~ Romans 10:9

To follow Jesus is to follow life over death.

1. God made a plan.
2. Jesus executed the plan.
3. Holy Spirit revealed it.

Stand Victorious IN Christ.

I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And will call upon the name of the LORD. ~ Psalm 116:17
